Mastering Robotic Process Automation with UiPath

Introduction

This course will provide student with a good grasp of Robotic Process Automation using UiPath,  a popular RPA platform. 

Course Objective

By the end of the course, students will be able to  

  • Develop a thorough understanding of RPA foundations, acknowledging its critical role in  the digital age via the leading UiPath platform. 

  • Master the construction of automated workflows that can interact with web browsers  seamlessly, allowing for the effective automation of repetitive chores. 

  • Learn key data manipulation skills through datatable use and Excel automation, which  are required for effective data processing in a variety of business scenarios. • Automate the retrieval and transmission of emails which is one of the most common  communications channels 

  • Enhance document-handling capabilities by automating the extraction of data from  numerous PDFs, whether in their native or image formats. 

  • Demonstrate newfound expertise through collaborative group work, culminating in the  creation and presentation of an RPA project. 

Course Outline

  • Session 1: Introduction to RPA, UiPath and User Interface Automation

  • Session 2: Datatable and Excel Automation 

  • Session 3: Email and PDF Automation 

  • Session 4: Capstone Project 

  • Session 5: Group Presentation by Participants

Teaching Methodology

The teaching methodology employed in this course uses brief lectures to introduce essential  concepts and theoretical principles, followed by immediate application during hands-on sessions.  This approach serves to reinforce understanding, address challenges in real-time, and cultivate  practical skills. The alternating structure ensures a balanced acquisition of theoretical knowledge  and practical competence.  

Technical Pre-requisites

Participants are required to bring their personal laptops with the necessary software and  administrative rights. If a participant does not have administrative privileges on their laptop, the  following software should be installed before attending the course:

  • UiPath Studio 2022.10.10 

  • Chrome extension: UiPath Web Automation 22.10 

 

The operating system should be either Windows 10 or 11 (please note that UiPath Studio is not  compatible with MacOS). Additionally, participants should have Google Chrome version 64  installed as their web browser, along with Microsoft Office 2019 or 365. It's essential to have the  desktop versions of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and a PDF (Portable Document Format)  reader, such as Adobe Acrobat, installed as well.

Participant Pre-requisites

Participants are expected to possess fundamental programming skills, with a preference for  familiarity in VB.Net. Proficiency in other languages such as Python, C, C#, or Java is acceptable.

About the Trainer

Michael Tan, a Senior Lecturer at Nanyang Business School, is currently teaching a course titled  "Robotics Process Automation in Analytics.", a module of the Master of Science in Business  Analytics degree. In 2019, he began teaching Robotics Process Automation (RPA) using UiPath at  the Institute of Systems Science, National University of Singapore. In 2023, he published a  teaching case titled "Planning for a Successful Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Project and  Beyond." His competence and passion to teaching were recognized when he got UiPath's  "Educator of the Week" award. Michael's skills and views have earned him a spot on a panel at  the upcoming Automation Asia virtual conference, as well as guest lectures on RPA at the  University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Institute of Engineering Management (IEM). Prior  to joining Nanyang Business School, he spent 11 years teaching at National University of Singapore.
