Stage Camp by Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) is a fantastic three-day programme in which budding young performers get to explore the world of theatre whilst developing their confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills.

Our camp provides an excellent platform for children to come together and work collaboratively on a devised-based drama journey that culminates in an exciting performance showcasing all their hard work throughout the week!

Rachel Nip is a performer, choreographer and puppeteer in Singapore. She is Singapore Repertory Theatre’s (SRT) Resident Teaching Artist and has taught theatre and musical theatre programmes in various preschools, private and public schools as well as tertiary institutions.

Programmes taught include SRT’s The Gift of Theatre (preschool), Dramatic Language (primary), Out Loud Literacy (primary) and Shakespeare Comes Alive (secondary/tertiary). Favourite theatre credits include “Where Are You?” (W!ld Rice), “Hello, How Do You Move?” (The Theatre Practice), “Transplant” and “The Puppets Are Alright” (The Finger Players), and “Dead Man's Cellphone” (CCSF, San Francisco).

Learning Outcomes:

• Learn theatre techniques such as tableau, characterisation, and vocal expression

• Develop their self-awareness and stage presence

• Develop material to present as part of an informal showcase on Day 3

• Strengthen their leadership skills and work together as an ensemble

• Exercise their creativity and imagination

• Explore socioemotional development through key skills such as: critical thinking, communication and confidence building

Programme Details:

• Stage camp short (3x3 hours)

• Stage camp long (3x6 hours)

Activities for Stage Camp Short (9 AM - 12 PM / 1 PM - 4 PM)

• Day 1: Getting to know each other through teambuilding exercises. Use of improvisation to explore chosen themes. Initial blocking and introduction to character work.

• Day 2: Development of vocal & physical skills and characterisation. Introduction to basic stage practises. Continuation of blocking and rehearsal.

• Day 3: Revision of stage presence and

performance technique. Final Rehearsals. Informal showing for family and friends!

Activities for Stage Camp Long (9 AM - 4 PM)

• Day 1: Getting to know each other! Exploring the themes through

improvisation. Lunch break. Introduction to drama skills and begin blocking for the showcase.

• Day 2: Inspiring confidence and continuation of devising for the showcase. Lunch break. Developing theatrical practices.

• Day 3: Developing theatrical practices and adding final touches. Lunch break. Final Rehearsals & Performance!
