Rubén de la Nuez (b. Havana, Cuba) is an art theorist, art critic and academic specializing in contemporary art and new media. He is currently an Adjunct Lecturer at the School of Art, Design and Media, and the School of Humanities, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
He has taught in graduate and post-graduate programs in a number of academic institutions, including the School of Arts and Letters, University of Havana; the Sichuan International Studies University, Chongqing, China; the Dutch Art Institute, ArtEZ University of the Arts, Arnhem, The Netherlands; and the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Singapore. He holds an MA in Art History from the School of Arts and Letters, University of Havana. He was a UNESCO Research Fellow at the Theory Department, Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht, The Netherlands.
He has researched, published and lectured on a broad range of issues related to history and theory of art and new media. He is particularly interested in matters concerning translation and contamination across cultural and artistic paradigms; and the restoration of Modern aesthetics within New Media. His latest book, co-authored with Danné Ojeda, is entitled Trazos Discontinuos: AntologÃa crÃtica sobre las bienales de arte en Asia PacÃfico (Dashed Lines: A Critical Anthology on Art Biennials in Asia Pacific), Leiden: Almenara, 2021
