The Art major develops learners’ competencies in Visual Art through courses in studio practice and critical studies, enabling you to become confident and independent practitioners. Learning is conducted through a wide range of visual art courses spanning 2D and 3D media, contemporary digital technologies, and art theories. Courses are taught by accomplished artists and experts in the field in well-equipped, purpose-built studios. The programme will culminate with an Arts-based research project where you will develop your personal artistic voice and create a body of works for public exhibition.

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is a public research university in Singapore. Founded in 1981, it is also the second oldest autonomous university in the country.

The university is organised across numerous colleges and schools, including the College of Engineering, College of Science, Nanyang Business School, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, College of Computing and Data Science, Graduate College, National Institute of Education, and S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies. NTU is also home to two Research Centres of Excellence – the Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering, and Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science, and many University Research Institutes such as Earth Observatory of Science (which was a Research Centre of Excellence from June 2008 to June 2023, and transitioned to a University Research Institute in July 2023).

NTU's main campus covers 200 hectares (490 acres) of land, making it the largest university campus in Singapore.

The main campus is located in the western part of Singapore. Apart from its main campus, NTU also has a medical campus in Novena, Singapore’s healthcare district. As a large, comprehensive, university, it has 37,458 enrolled students, and 7,997 faculty and staff as of 2024.

Academic Discipline Minimum Requirements for Bachelor of Arts in Art and Education

Meeting the minimum requirement for a specific academic subject does not guarantee the allocation of the academic subject.

Allocation of academic subject is dependent on ranking based on student teachers’ qualifications and results (at the discretion of the departments) as well as the availability of vacancies.

A pass at GCE 'A' Level in Art / A pass in H2 level in Art / A pass at Higher level in Art (IB Diploma) / At least a major CAP of 2.0 for NUS High School Diploma in Fine Art / Art-Related Diploma from recognised colleges and polytechnics / Candidates with ‘A’ Level or H2 level or Higher level (IB Diploma) from any discipline with strong art portfolios will be considered.
AND Art Focused interview is compulsory for all applicants.

Suitability Tests
Applicants may, at the discretion of the Singapore Ministry of Education and the University, be required to undergo such tests as may be set to assess their suitability for University study and teacher-training and to appear for interviews.

The programme provides strong training in studio practice across various media, alongside critical art studies that help students build their own artistic voice, culminating in a capstone project and public exhibition. At the same time, it equips students with professional teaching knowledge in pedagogy, curriculum design, and classroom management, supported by hands-on practicum experiences in schools. With access to state-of-the-art facilities and mentorship from experienced faculty, students gain both creative and instructional expertise. Graduates are fully qualified to teach art in Singapore schools, and the programme’s close link with the Ministry of Education ensures strong career pathways, scholarship opportunities, and long-term professional development.

Have strong career prospects in both the education and arts sectors. The most direct pathway is becoming qualified art teachers in primary or secondary schools, supported by the programme’s practicum and pedagogical training. Beyond classroom teaching, graduates can also pursue roles as arts education specialists, curriculum coordinators, or programme developers within the Ministry of Education and related institutions.
