The Master of Teaching (MTeach) degree will provide prospective educators with the necessary professional qualification for entry into the teaching profession. Drawing on the disciplinary knowledge and critical analytic skills of its graduate students, the MTeach degree prepares graduates to make a real difference in the classroom. With a deep understanding of what and how students learn, and confidence to innovate, teacher graduates will be ready to take the first step on a rewarding career path.

Typical entry requirements (MEd by Coursework)

A good honours Degree (at least second class lower) or equivalent from a recognised university
Evidence of English proficiency at the level of at least an IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL score of 550 or a credit in the GCE ‘O’ Level English Language
Evidence of Malay proficiency at the level of at least a credit in the GCE ‘O’ Level Malay Language applicable for applicants applying for Malay medium Master’s Degree programme
Applicants are advised to write a short research proposal
Successful performance in an interview and any test required

This programme is designed to enhance the professional development of educators and education administrators. The candidates will undertake a supervised study of research, research training and attending subject-related modules at master level. This programme provides the candidates to focus on areas of specific interests to refine teaching, learning and assessment expertise.

It is important to note that the M Ed degree does not confer qualified teacher status, which is required in order to teach in government schools in Brunei or in some sections of the Ministry of Education. Applicants wishing to become qualified teachers should apply for the MTeach programme. The MEd degree is appropriate for experienced teachers. It is not intended as an initial qualification in Education.

Graduates of the MTeach programme are qualified to work as professional teachers in various educational levels—early childhood, primary, secondary, higher education, vocational/technical training—and in inclusive special education. shbie.ubd.edu.bn The degree also prepares individuals for roles beyond just classroom teaching, for example as teacher mentors, curriculum developers, instructional leaders, or educational policy advisors thanks to the research, theory, and reflective practice components.
